THE OBVERSE OF THIS BEAUTIFUL COIN BEARS THE REGAL IMAGE OF KING EDWARD VII (1841-1910), KING OF THE UNITED KINGDOM AND THE BRITISH DOMINIONS, AND EMPEROR OF INDIA FROM 1901-1910. EDWARD, BORN ALBERT EDWARD, ELDEST SON OF QUEEN VICTORIA (1819-1901), WAS THE LONGEST-SERVING HEIR APPARENT IN BRITISH HISTORY UNTIL APRIL 22, 2011, WHEN HIS RECORD WAS REPLACED BY PRINCE CHARLES. EDWARD IS STILL THE LONGEST HOLDER OF THE TITLE PRINCE OF WALES. AFTER EDWARD VII CAME TO THE THRONE, HE WAS KNOWN AS THE "UNCLE OF EUROPE" (DUE TO HIS MOTHER'S ARRANGED MARRIAGES OF HER CHILDREN TO THE OTHER CROWNED HEADS), AND AS THE "PEACEMAKER", DUE TO HIS EFFORTS TO FOSTER AND STABILIZE GOOD RELATIONS BETWEEN BRITAIN AND HER EUROPEAN NEIGHBORS. BEING IDENTIFIED WITH THE LEISURE AND FASHION OF THE ELITE, THE EDWARDIAN ERA (1901-1910) IS NAMED FOR HIM.
