ACCORDING TO LEGEND, THE HOUSE OF SOLOMON WAS DESCENDED FROM MENELIK, THE SON OF KING SOLOMON OF ISRAEL AND THE QUEEN OF SHEBA.
THE DYNASTY CAME TO POWER IN 1270 AD, AND WITH THE AID OF A BRITISH MISSION, AND SUCCESFULLY UNITED ALL OF ETHIOPIA INTO ONE COUNTRY IN 1855.
HAILE SELASSIE (REIGNED 1930-1974), AN INTERNATIONALIST RULER THAT LED ETHIOPIA FROM EXILE IN WORLD WAR II, AND MADE HIS COUNTRY A CHARTER MEMBER OF THE UNITED NATIONS.
ETHEOPIA'S LAST EMPEROR WAS DEPOSED IN 1974, FOLLOWING CIVIL ECONOMIC UNREST AND REVOLUTION, A MILITARY MUTINY, AND A COUP D'ETAT BY OPPORTUNIST SOVIET BACKED MILITARY OFFICERS. HAILE SALASSIE WAS DEPOSED AND CONFINED UNDER HOUSE ARREST IN THE GRAND PALACE IN ADDIS ABABA. THERE HE DIED UNDER MYSTERIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES, ON AUGUST 27, 1975.
