MIKHAIL VASILYEVICH LOMONOSOV (1711-1765) WAS A RUSSIAN POLYMATH AND AUTHOR WHO HAD A GREAT IMPACT ON MANY FIELDS INCLUDING SCIENCE, EDUCATION AND LITERATURE. DURING THE 18TH CENTURY AGE OF ENLIGHTENMENT, LOMONSOV DELVED INTO THE NATURAL SCIENCES, CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS, ASTRONOMY, GEOLOGY, MINEROLOGY, ART, HISTORY, PHILOLOGY, OPTICAL DEVICES, POETRY, LITERATURE, AND OTHER AREAS OF STUDY. CONSIDERED THE FOUNDER OF RUSSIAN LITERATURE FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO MODERN RUSSIAN LITERARY LANGUAGE, HE IS ALSO REGARDED AS THE FATHER OF RUSSIAN SCIENCES. NOTABLY, HE DISCOVERED THE ATMOSPHERE OF THE PLANET VENUS, DEVELOPED THE LAW OF MASS CONSERVATION IN CHEMICAL REACTIONS, AND POSTULATED THE WAVE THEORY OF LIGHT. HE WROTE A GRAMMAR THAT REFORMED THE RUSSIAN LITERARY LANGUAGE BY COMBINING CONTEMPORARY VERNACULAR WITH THE OLD SLAVONIC TONGUE.
