DESCRIBED AS A "BROAD HEAD" OR "LARGE HEAD" VARIETY (TYPE-2) OF LONGACRE'S GOLD ONE-DOLLAR DESIGN, AND KNOWN WIDELY AS AN "INDIAN PRINCESS" OR "INDIAN HEAD", THIS COIN DESIGN WAS USED BETWEEN 1856 AND 1889 (ALTHOUGH, GOLD DOLLARS REMAINED IN CIRCULATION UNTIL PRIVATE OWNERSHIP WAS MADE ILLEGAL IN THE 1930'S).
