THE POPULATION ON MAYOTTE IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN INTRODUCED BY MAN. THEY LIVE MAINLY IN VARIOUS FOREST TYPE REGIONS, IN GROUPS OF 5 TO 12, AND SOMETIMES LARGER, ESPECIALLY ON MAYOTTE.
THE DEPARTMENT OF MAYOTTE IS LOCATED IN THE INDIAN OCEAN BETWEEN MADAGASCAR AND MOZAMBIQUE. IT CONSISTS OF A MAIN ISLAND, A SMALLER ISLAND, AND SEVERAL ISLETS. IT IS THE POOREST REGION OF FRANCE, BUT IS STILL MORE PROSPEROUS THAN THE OTHER COUNTRIES OF THE MOZAMBIQUE CHANNEL.
