SIMÓN JOSÉ ANTONIO DE LA SANTÍSIMA TRINIDAD DE BOLÍVAR Y PALACIOS (1783 –1830), COMMONLY KNOWN AS SIMÓN BOLÍVAR, OR "EL LIBERTADOR" (THE LIBERATOR), WAS A VENEZUELAN POLITICAL AND MILITARY LEADER WHO PLAYED A LEADING ROLE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST SPANISH COLONIAL DOMINATION, AND IN THE ESTABLISHMENT OF BOLIVIA, COLOMBIA, ECUADOR, PANAMA, PERU AND VENEZUELA AS SOVEREIGN STATES. HE WAS PRESIDENT OF THE SECOND AND THIRD REPUBLICS OF VENEZUELA, FIRST PRESIDENT OF GRAN COLOMBIA, FIRST PRESIDENT OF BOLIVIA, AND 8TH PRESIDENT OF PERU.
THE EMIRATE OF SHARJAH HAS BEEN HISTORICALLY ONE OF THE WEALTHIEST CITY-STATES IN THE PERSIAN GULF. THE RULING DYNASTY CAME TO POWER IN 1727, AND BECAME A BRITISH PROTECTORATE IN 1820 TO REMAIN FREE FROM OTTOMAN DOMINATION. IT RECEIVED THE STATUS OF A SALUTE STATE, OR PRINCELY STATE FROM THE BRITISH DUE TO ITS IMPORTANCE OF ITS LOCATION ALONG THE MARITIME TRADE ROUTE TO INDIA. IN 1965, SHEIKH SAQR bin SULTAN WAS REMOVED AS EMIR BY BRITISH FORCES AND REPLACED BY HIS COUSIN AND BROTHER-IN-LAW KHALID bin MOHAMMED AL QASIMI. A YEAR AFTER THE MINTING OF THIS COIN, SHEIK KHALID JOINED SHARJAH TO THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, OF WHICH SHARJAH IS STILL A PART. IN 1972, THE FORMER RULER, SHEIKH SAQR, STAGED A BLOODY LEFTIST COUP AND ASSASSINATED SHEIKH KHALID. THE COUP FAILED AND KHALID'S BROTHER, SHEIK SULTAN III, HAS RULED EVER SINCE.
