JALAL ad-DIN MUHAMMAD RUMI (also JALAL ad-DIN MUHAMMAD BALKHI or RUMI) (1207-1273 AD) WAS PERSIAN POET, JURIST, THEOLOGIAN AND SUFI MYSTIC. HE IS POLULARLY KNOWN AS MEVLANA (OUR MASTER) IN TURKEY. HIS INFLUENCE TRANSCENDS THE BORDERS AND ETHNICITIES OF THE NEAR AND MIDDLE EAST AND EVEN ASIA, HIS SPIRITUAL INFLUENCE IS STILL KEENLY APPRECIATED AFTER OVER 700 YEARS. SURPRISINGLY, HE HAS BEEN CALLED "THE MOST POPULAR POET IN AMERICA" AND "THE BEST SELLING POET IN THE U.S.".
